Fort De Roovere Bridge, West Brabant Water Line, Netherlands
|
The architects came up with an ingenious solution: they built the bridge through the moat, not over it. This ingenious design met the original requirements in that it provides access to the fort and does not hinder the view. However, the structure is so novel that I suspect it will become a tourist attraction in and of itself.
From a far, the bridge is invisible to the eye. The flow of the moat appears continuous, as the water level remains at the same level. As visitors approach the fort, the bridge appears as a break in the water.
