President Ma Ying-Jeou of Taiwan ordered the Republic of China government to donate NT$100 million (equal to about 300 million Japanese yen or 3.3 million US dollars) to Japan. A Ministry of the Interior rescue team of 28 members has arrived Japan on March 14th. In addition, an official medical team is also ready to leave for Japan. Some other Taiwanese government and charitable organizations have also arranged donations and sent assistance to Japan.
The People's Republic of China has sent US$167,000 in aid so far, as well as a 15-member rescue team which left Beijing on Sunday, 13 March 2011. Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen ordered the Cambodian government to donate US$100,000 in aid. Malaysia sent in a search and rescue team, with doctors and medical assistants. Singapore sent in a search and rescue team. The nation of Afghanistan donated $50,000 to Japan; a very notable donation given the circumstances the war-torn nation of Afghanistan finds itself in.
